Carbondale, IL
Tuesday 19 August 2008
After our Bayfield honeymoon, we drove to River Falls, WI to be with my parents and family for a night. On Friday we left for Rockford, IL to be with Elav’s parents and sister for one night. On Saturday morning, John and Julie (parents), Elav and I drove one truck and trailer and two cars down to Carbondale, IL. Elav and I stuck together on the road and arrived at our new living place about 45 minutes earlier than los padres. I’m not going to go into the woes of moving, but lets just say its Tuesday and I am happy to see improvement or, as “they” say, the light at the end of the tunnel.
Elav began school yesterday and his parents left in the morning as well. I’ve been having some practice at being a house wife, but I’m not sure if I really fit the ideal. I should be cooking more or something. hehe We have a washer and dryer AND a portable dishwasher!!! (Someday I’ll read back on this and laugh at my standard of living, I’m sure.) The only thing is that we don’t have enough shelving so our plates and bowls are in a lower cupboard and our cups and mugs are on the table until we figure something out.
On our second night staying in Carbondale (Sunday night) we heard screeching tires followed by the crash of crunching metal… we zipped outside, thinking that it was someone who hit one of our vehicles parked on the street because it sounded so close. Thankfully all our vehicles were in tip-top shape (or close to it, I’m sure). Our neighbors, who have a southern accent and are really nice, came outside too and we bonded over disaster. Later that night, the girl came to our door and told us the noise had been from someone hitting a mailbox and it was all bent over sideways. Our land lady, Christi, says it must be someones favorite thing to do because its happened several times on this street. Yey! Let’s go get drunk and hit mailboxes! … weirdo.
