08/08/08 a popular wedding date

Congratulations if you’re getting married today or you know someone who is. Today is 08/08/08, a popular wedding date, just as 07/07/07 was.
In Asian cultures, the number eight is considered a lucky number for building wealth and influence; hence, the Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, open 08/08/08 at 8:08:08 p.m., according to the New York Daily News horoscope.
“On a numerological level, the number eight represents the evolution of life,” the horoscope site says. “The two perfect circles together are a symbol of learning the lessons of Earth before transcending to a higher spiritual dimension.”
When the number “8” is turned on its side, it becomes the symbol for infinity, “a fitting motif to represent the beginning of a marriage,” reads a wedding planner’s blog on the Internet. “If you aren’t getting married this year, don’t worry, there is always 09/09/09, 10/10/10, 11/11/11 and 12/12/12,” the blog states.

The day before the Day Before

Wednesday 6 August 2008

Elav and Ingrid drove up on Sunday night (technically it was Monday morning when they got here) and have been a HUGE help and I thank them with much gratefulness. The fields and road and the whole property has been weed wacked, mowed and trimmed up and is looking beautiful. Today the tent came, we set up the tables and chairs, we mulched and then set up the arbor. We have quite a bit to finish tomorrow yet, then we can relax because the Groom’s Dinner is at night!

I plan on putting directions up Thursday night for those who have lost their directions.

the beginning of the Final Week

Friday 1 August 2008

It feels as if things are sliding into place. Moving (for me) is the hardest part of this marriage business. I wish we could have just stayed as we are, gotten married and then slowly moved down to Carbondale. But as it is my belongings will be “living” in a snowmobile trailer for a total of 3 weeks while I get married, honeymoon and in general get ready to move.

Anyway, enough about moving. The wedding is coming right up. Just 7 days. One week. And that goes by fast. We have painting of signs to do, painting of the guest book table, finishing the base of the arbor, lawn care and Wednesday we’ll have the tent being set up. There are other things happening too, but I don’t want to stress anyone out. :-)

Elav and Ingrid (groom and bridesmaid, respectively) are driving up this coming Sunday to help out with things which will be so nice to see them and have an extra two bodies. The bridesmaid’s dresses are almost finished (although David’s Bridal will definitely be hearing from me still) and some decorating things will be happening Thursday and Friday… and hmmm. I think we can finally just get married then.

Looking forward to that day…

Preparing for that day

Sunday 27 July 2008

Dad and I finished building the arbor, which will be at the ceremony when we are married. It was a couple days of hard work and father-daughter bonding time.  It was great and the arbor is beautiful–it will be a good memory at their new house.

Darcy Ward, Jill Zimmer, and Jess (a visiting Australian) helped me paint benches that will be used at the ceremony site–please don’t critique them too much. And for Pete’s sake, don’t look at the underside!

This week we’ll be at the Oshkosh air show for the first half, when we come back we’ll get back down to business. Filling torches and lighters with fluid, wrapping silverware and generally running around chasing our heads.

We [almost] have a Photographer!

Monday 18 February 2008

This past weekend Elav visited River Falls from Friday through Sunday. We made some progress with hooking up services for our wedding day. I know who I would like as a photographer, officiant and videographer. I just have to officially sign them up. Mom is checking on renting tents, tables and portapoties. Next we need to find a caterer that serves delicious, health food and that’s it as far as the wedding and reception goes.

6 months from today

Friday 8 February 2008

Well, we are both back in school for the spring semester and studying hard. Plans for our wedding are happening slowly. Neither of us have been married before so we really aren’t sure how to go about this. :)

The date is August 8 and more information is sure to come.
